Best Birds Thursday #6

March 20, 2014

The official start to Spring is today! Looking forward to the consistently warm weather again. There are already lots of Bluebonnets out too. Without further ado... here are my best photos of the week.

Wild Monk Parakeets (Myiopsitta monachus) in Austin, Texas.

In Fredericksburg, Texas this weekend, there were some of the normal birds... a foraging Black Crested Titmouse (Baeolophus atricristatus)...

... and a Bewick's Wren (Thryomanes bewickii) who paused long enough for a few photos.

A hazy moon-rise at sunset provided a dramatic backdrop for these Black Vultures (Coragyps atratus).

Back in New Braunfels, Texas... I spotted a mouthful... juvenile light morph Western Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis calurus). (Note the light colored eye typical of a younger bird.)

Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) in the front yard at sundown.

... and this last one... not very good photos... but, I have no idea what kind of hawk it is. Ferruginous Hawk? Juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk? Not sure... but he sure did have a mean eye on me!
